A Maryland driver turned a frustrating road incident into a $500,000 lottery win by using the license plate numbers of a car that cut him off. The Anne Arundel County resident narrowly avoided an accident when another vehicle suddenly cut in front of him on the highway.

Instead of staying angry, the driver memorized the offending vehicle's license plate numbers and later visited Doc's F&B Liquors in Glen Burnie. There, he purchased ten identical "Pick 5" lottery tickets for $1 each, using the license plate numbers as his picks.

The next morning, the man checked his tickets using the Maryland Lottery app and discovered he had won $500,000. He immediately shared the good news with his mother.

The lucky winner plans to use his windfall to pay off existing bills and invest the remainder for his future. As the seller of the winning ticket, Doc's F&B Liquors will receive a $5,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

"When driving on the highway, you're supposed to obey the rules of the road and be courteous toward other drivers. However, that doesn't always happen," noted the Maryland Lottery statement. In this case, one driver's discourtesy led to another's unexpected fortune.
