Las Vegas casino resorts are implementing sophisticated vape detectors in hotel rooms, catching guests who attempt to vape indoors and charging them significant fees.

A Reddit user recently reported receiving a $400 charge at a Golden Entertainment property for vaping in their hotel room. The detectors not only detected the vapor but also recorded precise timestamps of the incidents.

The most widely used detection system is the Halo Smart Sensor by IPVideo, which continuously monitors air quality for traces of tobacco and THC. These sophisticated devices can detect even minimal amounts of vapor, significantly less than traditional cigarette smoke.

Beyond vape detection, these sensors also include audio monitoring capabilities, detecting sounds like shouting or gunshots in areas where cameras aren't permitted. According to security company Avigiolon, hotels are using these devices to increase revenue through violation fines.

Former hotel employees report that these sensitive detectors can be triggered by various substances, including hairspray, candles, and matches, as they measure all non-air particles in the environment. The technology provides detailed reports to hotel management about air quality changes in rooms.

When contacted about the reported $400 fee, Golden Entertainment stated that this specific amount doesn't match their usual charges at either Arizona Charlie's or The STRAT properties. However, the presence of these detection systems appears to be becoming standard practice across Las Vegas hotels, regardless of their price point or rating.
