Problem gambling affects approximately 2.5 million U.S. adults severely, with an additional 5-8 million experiencing mild to moderate gambling problems. As a serious mental health condition, problem gambling can significantly disrupt daily life, careers, and relationships, leading to social, financial, and emotional challenges.

During Problem Gambling Awareness Month (March 2025), the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) launches its "Seeking Understanding" campaign to increase awareness and support for those affected by gambling-related harm.

The campaign focuses on two main objectives:

  • Raising public awareness about problem gambling and available support services
  • Encouraging healthcare providers to implement gambling disorder screening

Problem gambling often manifests as a hidden addiction, making awareness and early intervention crucial. Throughout March, organizations nationwide will host educational workshops, special events, and advocacy initiatives to promote understanding and support for those affected.

Help is available 24/7 through:

All support services are free and confidential, offering hope and assistance without judgment or shame to those struggling with gambling-related issues.

Organizations and individuals interested in supporting this initiative can access resources and awareness toolkits at www.NCPGambling.org/PGAM.
