A 64-year-old grandmother is suing Dotty's slots parlor chain for $82 million after being paralyzed in a December 2023 robbery at their Troutdale, Oregon location. The lawsuit claims the company's marketing misrepresented its venues as safe spaces for middle-aged women.

Gallo Crawford was shot by an unidentified assailant, resulting in lower body paralysis that confines her to a wheelchair. Her lawsuit against Oregon Restaurant Services, Inc., Dotty's parent company, alleges negligence and fraudulent misrepresentation.

Founded in 1991, Dotty's operates approximately 175 venues across Oregon, Nevada, and Montana. The chain specifically markets to middle-aged women through channels like "The View" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," promoting itself as a secure, comfortable alternative to traditional male-dominated gambling establishments.

The lawsuit contends that despite this marketing strategy, the Troutdale location failed to implement adequate security measures, including:

  • Sufficient staffing
  • Alarm systems
  • Video monitoring
  • Bullet-proof glass near cash registers

This alleged lack of security existed despite the venue's history of violent incidents. Crawford's legal team argues that Dotty's created false expectations of safety while knowing about potential security risks.

Oregon Restaurant Services has not commented on the pending litigation.
