Hours before the alleged murder, Bergeron posted concerning videos on Facebook showing erratic behavior and paranoia. In one video, he recorded himself driving around Detroit, expressing fears about police surveillance. Another video showed him in apparent distress, claiming someone had pulled a gun on him.

The victim's family, who held a candlelit vigil, stated they didn't believe Ireland knew his killer. They described Ireland as "a gentle giant" who "loved everyone."

Bergeron, known in online poker circles as "hu4rollz," has a notable poker career with over $1.3 million in tournament earnings. His achievements include a fourth-place finish at EPT Deauville in 2010 ($312,853) and a World Series of Poker Circuit ring in 2011.

Former associates from the poker community expressed shock at the news, remembering Bergeron as a caring person who had previously helped friends in need. He had been absent from the live poker scene for approximately five years before the incident.

The suspect allegedly fled the crime scene in a white SUV and committed another assault nearby, according to police reports. He faces charges of first-degree murder, two counts of felony firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
