IGT Reports Cybersecurity Breach, Company Activates Response Plan
IGT, a leading lottery services provider, recently disclosed a cybersecurity breach that occurred on November 17, when unauthorized third parties gained access to certain company systems. The company has initiated its cybersecurity response plan and temporarily taken some systems offline as a precautionary measure.
While the financial impact remains uncertain, Stifel analyst Jeffrey Stantial suggests the breach's effects will likely be "immaterial" if addressed promptly. The incident appears limited to internal systems, not affecting consumer-facing operations, with potential product delays estimated at days or weeks rather than months.
The cybersecurity incident comes shortly after Everi Holdings shareholders approved a $6.3 billion merger with IGT's global gaming and PlayDigital units, to be acquired by Apollo Global Management affiliate. The deal, announced in July, will provide IGT with $4.05 billion in gross proceeds and is expected to close in Q3 2025.
IGT has engaged external advisors to investigate and remediate the unauthorized activity, implementing business continuity plans to maintain operations while addressing the breach. There's currently no evidence linking the cyber attack to the pending merger transaction.
The company continues its investigation and is working to restore affected systems while maintaining regular business operations through established contingency protocols.
