Family Sues Las Vegas Restaurant After Fatal Shellfish Allergy Incident at Beauty & Essex
A Las Vegas restaurant is facing a wrongful death lawsuit after serving shellfish to a man with a known shellfish allergy, leading to his death in April 2023.
Abraham Williams explicitly informed his server at Beauty & Essex in the Cosmopolitan about his shellfish allergy when ordering spaghettini with pesto sauce. After one bite, he went into anaphylactic shock and later died, with his death certificate citing "food associated allergic reaction" as the cause.

The lawsuit, filed by Williams' parents and estate administrator in Clark County District Court, seeks damages from multiple parties:
- Beauty & Essex restaurant
- The Cosmopolitan resort
- Clark County Fire Department
- Community Ambulance
The complaint alleges that restaurant and resort employees:
- Served an unsafe meal containing known allergens
- Failed to provide assistance when Williams was in distress
- Prevented others from performing life-saving techniques
- Created a barricade around Williams
The lawsuit further claims emergency responders:
- Failed to properly administer oxygen
- Did not correctly intubate Williams
- Failed to perform necessary EKG monitoring
Williams was taken to the hospital where he went into respiratory and cardiac arrest. Due to severe swelling, doctors couldn't re-intubate him. He was placed on a ventilator and passed away two days later at Nathan Adelson Hospice after his family removed life support.
The suit states that Williams' family continues to suffer from grief and sorrow due to his preventable death.
