BetMGM is expanding its popular Second Chance promotion to NBA and NHL betting after its success during the NFL season. The promotion offers players a refund if their first scorer bet comes in second.

For NBA games, the promotion runs every Friday through the end of the regular season. Bettors who wager on a player to score the first field goal will receive their stake back in cash if that player scores the second basket instead.

For NHL games, starting January 8, the promotion runs every Wednesday during the regular season. If a bettor's pick for first goal scorer ends up scoring the second goal, they'll receive their wager back in cash.

The promotion has already proven successful with NFL betting, where BetMGM reported a 110% increase in first touchdown wagers during the 2024 season.

Player proposition bets are particularly attractive to bettors due to their typically favorable odds. For example, NHL first goal scorer bets can offer odds ranging from +900 to +1600, meaning a $100 bet could win $900 to $1,600.

This expansion could particularly benefit NHL betting, which traditionally sees less action than NFL, NBA, and MLB. The "insurance policy" aspect of the Second Chance promotion may encourage more bettors to engage with hockey wagering.

All refunds through the Second Chance promotion are paid as withdrawable unrestricted funds, making this a particularly attractive offer for sports bettors looking to minimize risk while pursuing high-value proposition bets.
