Shinaver's remains were discovered on December 7 in Woodland, Washington, inside his truck submerged in water. The Cowlitz County Coroner's Office confirmed his identity through dental records and determined the cause of death as accidental drowning.
The discovery was made when a tow truck driver, searching for a different vehicle, spotted Shinaver's black 1993 Ford Ranger in the water off Dike Road. The location was approximately six miles from the ilani Casino Resort in Ridgefield, where Shinaver was last seen on April 30, 2021.
At the time of his disappearance, Shinaver was described as a 6-foot-tall man weighing about 155 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a yellow long-sleeve work shirt, Carhartt jeans, and boots.
The circumstances that led to Shinaver's truck entering the water remain unclear. He was found alone in the vehicle, and authorities haven't revealed additional details about the events leading to his death. The St. Helens Police Department in Oregon had been handling the missing person investigation since his disappearance.
