Arthurica Jackson, who claimed the jackpot anonymously on November 5, was employed at QuickPump store in Hearne, Texas - the same location where the winning ticket was sold. She now faces charges of lottery fraud exceeding $10,000 and theft of property exceeding $300,000.
The investigation, led by Hearne police and state lottery officials, resulted in Jackson's arrest and transfer to Robertson County Jail. A justice of the peace set her bond at $150,000 for each charge, totaling $300,000, despite prosecutors' recommendation for a $3 million total bond. Jackson has since posted bond and awaits her court hearing.
Store clerk fraud involving lottery tickets typically occurs when employees deceive customers about winning tickets. Clerks can verify wins by scanning the barcode without scratching the ticket, potentially allowing them to falsely declare losing tickets and keep winners for themselves.
In a similar case from Tennessee, gas station attendant Meet Patel attempted to claim a $1 million prize after deceiving a customer. Security footage revealed Patel had checked two winning tickets for a customer, returning only a $40 winner while discarding and later retrieving the million-dollar ticket for himself.
