Reno's J Resort Tops $550M with New $130M Expansion Investment
Jacobs Entertainment is investing an additional $130 million in its J Resort in Reno, Nevada, bringing the total project investment to over $550 million. The expansion continues the transformation of the former Sands Regency property, which debuted as J Resort last spring.
The initial $300 million renovation included:
- Complete overhaul of 750 hotel rooms
- Casino floor modernization
- Addition of 1,000+ parking spaces
- New dining venues (Hannah's Table and J Paul's Italian Steakhouse)
- Afterglow nightclub
- 65-foot digital exterior wall featuring global artwork

The new $130 million investment will fund:
- Two new event spaces
- Exhibition hall for Ferrari collection display
- Rooftop indoor-outdoor pool
- Full-service spa
- Glow Plaza concert venue (15,000-person capacity)
The development is part of the broader Reno Neon Line project along W. 4th Street, which includes mixed-use hospitality, entertainment, art, and residential elements. Jacobs Entertainment has invested over $100 million in purchasing and clearing properties along the corridor.
The investment comes amid strong gaming performance in Washoe County:
- 2023: Over $1 billion in gaming revenue
- 2022: Over $1 billion in gaming revenue
- 2021: First time exceeding $1 billion since 2007
- 2020: $676 million
- 2019: $857.2 million
- 2018: $865.7 million
The development joins other major projects in the area, including the Meruelo Group's planned $400 million, 10,500-seat indoor arena in downtown Reno.
