Problem gambling affects approximately 2.5 million adults in the United States who meet the criteria for pathological gambling, with an additional 4-6 million experiencing mild to moderate gambling problems. Each person struggling with gambling addiction impacts 7-20 people in their families and communities.

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) hosts Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) each March to educate the public and promote available resources. This grassroots campaign brings together NCPG State Affiliates, public health organizations, advocacy groups, professional sports leagues, and gambling operators.

For its 20th anniversary, PGAM continues its mission of raising awareness about prevention, treatment, and recovery services. NCPG provides a free toolkit of resources for organizations participating in advocacy activities throughout March. Participants are encouraged to use #PGAM2023 on social media platforms to spread awareness.

If you or someone you know may have a gambling problem, help is available 24/7:

The National Council on Problem Gambling remains neutral on legalized gambling while working to minimize gambling addiction's economic and social costs through education, advocacy, and support services.
