The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) remains neutral on the Supporting Affordability and Fairness with Every Bet (SAFE Bet) Act, as it primarily establishes a nationwide prohibition on sports betting.

While the SAFE Bet Act highlights important consumer protection needs for gamblers, the legislation lacks sufficient investment in public health infrastructure to address gambling addiction effectively. A comprehensive national approach should combine population-wide strategies with proper regulation, legislation, and funding.

NCPG continues to prioritize the Gambling Addiction Recovery, Investment, and Treatment (GRIT) Act, which would provide the first federal funding for gambling addiction prevention, treatment, and research programs. This initiative represents a crucial step toward supporting individuals with gambling problems and implementing robust consumer protections.

Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congressman Paul Tonko have been instrumental in raising awareness about gambling-related harm through their advocacy in mental health and addiction fields. Their efforts have stimulated important policy discussions around gambling harm mitigation.

The National Council on Problem Gambling serves as the nation's only nonprofit organization focused on reducing gambling-related harm. For those struggling with gambling problems, the National Problem Gambling Helpline provides free, confidential support 24/7:
