Las Vegas Strip Stabbing Suspect Cleared for Trial on Murder, Terror Charges
A man accused of a deadly stabbing spree on the Las Vegas Strip has been found competent to stand trial after two years of psychiatric treatment. Yoni Barrios, 34, faces 15 counts, including terrorism, murder, battery, and attempted murder charges for the October 6, 2022 attacks.

Clark County District Court Judge Christy Craig determined that Barrios now understands the charges and can assist in his defense. The incident began when Barrios allegedly attacked street performers near the Wynn Las Vegas after they refused to take photos with him while he held a kitchen knife.
Two victims died from their wounds: Brent Allan Hallett, 47, of Canada, and Maris Mareen DiGiovanni, 30, of Las Vegas. Six others were injured in the subsequent attacks along Las Vegas Boulevard.
According to prosecutors, Barrios chose his victims "indiscriminately." After the attacks, he disposed of the blood-covered knife in bushes before being apprehended by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers.
Prior to the stabbings, Barrios had attempted to secure employment as a janitor at the Wynn Las Vegas. He reportedly told police he was trying to sell knives to earn money for travel back to California, where he had previously resided.
The case gained national attention, particularly due to Barrios's immigration status, with reports indicating he had entered the U.S. illegally from Guatemala. He previously worked as a stripper and had a criminal record in California.
The trial is scheduled to begin on Monday following his recent indictment by a Clark County grand jury.
