The incident began when officers attempted to stop Mendoza's vehicle at 10:26 p.m. near Christy Lane and East Bonanza Road in Sunrise Manor, where he was suspected of an earlier violent crime. After a brief pursuit, Mendoza crashed into palm trees near North Las Vegas Boulevard and Owens Avenue.

Upon exiting the vehicle, Mendoza allegedly fired at pursuing officers before fleeing on foot near Las Vegas Boulevard and North Fitch Street. Officer Marcos Gomez, 33, returned fire during the exchange. No officers were injured, though Mendoza may have sustained injuries during the incident.

After a two-day manhunt where Mendoza was considered "armed and dangerous," authorities successfully apprehended him on Sunday. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center facing multiple charges.

This marks the 14th officer-involved shooting in LVMPD jurisdiction during 2024. The department plans to release additional details about the case and shooting investigation later this week.
