In response to a deadly vehicle-ramming incident on December 20, 2015, Las Vegas implemented comprehensive security measures along the Strip. The attack, which killed one tourist and injured 37 others, prompted the installation of extensive protective barriers.

Clark County installed 5,600 crash-rated bollards along the Las Vegas Strip, stretching from the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign to Sahara Avenue. The security infrastructure also includes:

  • 640 linear feet of crash-rated post and cable protection
  • 1,635 linear feet of concrete crash wall
  • Total investment: $22 million
  • Installation period: 2017-2019

The engineering firm Kimley-Horn designed the system, providing "over eight total miles of pedestrian protection." While the bollards protect major intersections, some areas remain vulnerable where driveways and access points exist.
