Karruah Parkinson was critically wounded when other players allegedly followed him out and opened fire after he left them poker chips as tips. According to his lawyer, Okoye Morgan, Parkinson tried to find security during the incident but found no officers present.
Police found Parkinson in his bullet-riddled car and rushed him to HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital. He continues to suffer severe pain from stomach and arm injuries, with bullets having narrowly missed vital organs. The incident has severely impacted both his physical and mental health.
Morgan argues that Bestbet failed in its duty to protect patrons through adequate security measures. Police are still investigating three suspects, though no arrests have been made. Bestbet declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
This wasn't an isolated incident at the venue. In February 2024, another player was robbed at gunpoint of $7,000 from his $20,000 winnings in the parking lot. Police arrested 21-year-old Sean Evans for that crime after he dropped his phone while fleeing the scene.
