Father-Son Duo Sentenced to Probation in Michigan Illegal Gambling Case

A Michigan father and son duo avoided prison time after being sentenced to probation for operating illegal gambling establishments in Genesee County.

Shaun M. Bellah Sr., 44, and his son Shaun M. Bellah II, 24, were found guilty of running unauthorized gambling operations at two locations: The State Road Spot in Davison and The Bristol Spot in Burton.

During 2022 raids, authorities seized:

  • 100 gambling devices
  • $29,204 in cash
  • 62 gift cards

Initially facing serious charges including criminal enterprise operation and using computers to commit crimes, both men accepted plea deals. They admitted to maintaining gambling houses for gain, with the elder Bellah also pleading guilty to operating without a license.

The sentences included:

  • Bellah Sr.: Two years probation, $130 in fines, $136 in fees/court costs
  • Bellah II: One year probation, $130 in fines, $68 in fees/court costs

Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director Henry Williams emphasized this case demonstrates the state's commitment to maintaining gaming industry integrity. Attorney General Dana Nessel highlighted the successful partnership between her office and the MGCB in dismantling unlicensed gambling operations.
