DraftKings Faces Lawsuit After Husband Allegedly Gambled Away Family's $1M, Including Children's Savings
A New Jersey woman is suing DraftKings after her husband allegedly gambled away nearly $1 million of their family's money, including their children's savings accounts.

The lawsuit filed by Lisa D'Alessandro claims her husband, identified only as "Mdallo1990," wagered approximately $15 million on the platform between 2020 and January 2024. His monthly gambling escalated from $3,775 in 2020 to $125,000 by 2023, representing over 70% of his annual income.
The complaint alleges DraftKings actively fueled his addiction by:
- Inviting him to an exclusive "VIP Private Group"
- Assigning personal VIP hosts
- Offering free bets and loss coverage
- Providing gifts, including vacations and Apple products
- Upgrading him to "Onyx Elite level status"
D'Alessandro argues that DraftKings failed to:
- Conduct proper due diligence on the source of funds
- Follow anti-money laundering protocols
- Implement responsible gambling measures
- Intervene despite daily contact with VIP hosts
The case bears similarities to a previous lawsuit against BetMGM, where a judge ruled that New Jersey's Casino Control Act doesn't require operators to prevent problem gambling or stop inducing players who show signs of addiction. The court also determined that casinos don't owe players a common law duty of care.
