Browns Unveil Classic White Helmets for Three Games This Season
The Cleveland Browns are bringing back their classic white helmets for the 2023 season, marking the first time in 70 years the team will sport this historic look. The alternate helmets will be worn for three key matchups:
- Week 2 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
- Week 6 vs. San Francisco 49ers
- Week 17 vs. New York Jets
This throwback design pays homage to the team's original 1946 white helmets, which preceded the now-iconic orange helmets introduced in the early 1950s. The design maintains the Browns' traditional orange, brown and white color scheme while rearranging the elements.
Executive VP JW Johnson explained the decision was influenced by both history and fan input: "We're super fired up and really excited to have this opportunity to wear an alternate helmet. It harkens back to our past, and a lot of our greatest players wore white helmets. We also heard from our fans that it was the direction they wanted."
This change follows recent fan-driven brand updates, including modifications to the dog logo and midfield design. The clean, classic aesthetic of the throwback uniform aims to set a positive tone for what the team hopes will be a playoff-bound season.
