Boyz II Men's performance of the national anthem at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Saturday drew widespread criticism for its off-key harmonization and poor execution.

The Grammy-winning R&B group struggled from the opening lines, particularly during their attempt to harmonize "Oh say can you see," hitting notably flat notes that set a problematic tone for the rest of the performance.

Social media reaction was swift and harsh, with GPFans editor Chris Deeley declaring it "the worst anthem rendition of the season." Multiple users across platforms criticized the performance, with some speculating about technical issues such as potential problems with in-ear monitors due to wind conditions.

The performance was particularly disappointing given band member Wanya Morris's earlier promise about their anthem capabilities, stating, "I'm not sure if F1 has ever experienced hearing a Boyz II Men anthem, but we've been told it's pretty sexy."

While notable, this performance ranks below other infamous national anthem renditions, including:

  • Roseanne Barr's 1990 San Diego Padres game performance
  • Christina Aguilera's Super Bowl XLV attempt with incorrect lyrics
  • Carl Lewis's 1993 Chicago Bulls game performance
  • Fergie's controversial 2018 NBA All-Star Weekend rendition
