Argentina Launches Betting Investigation After YouTuber's Controversial Primera Division Debut
Argentine authorities launched an investigation into potential illegal betting activities after YouTuber Ivan "Spreen" Buhajeruk made an unexpected debut in a Primera Division soccer game. The 24-year-old social media influencer, who has 9 million followers, played for Deportivo Riestra against Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield.

The appearance lasted only 50 seconds, with Spreen being substituted without touching the ball in what appeared to be a marketing stunt for an energy drink. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Specialized Prosecutor on Gambling is investigating whether coach Cristian Fabbiani and Buhajeruk intended to attract illegal gambling. Multiple betting sites, including BetWarrior, BPlay, and Betsson, offered odds on Spreen's performance after his participation was announced just an hour before kickoff.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has also opened an ethics investigation to determine if Deportivo damaged the reputation and integrity of Argentine football. AFA President Claudio Tapia criticized the stunt, noting its insensitivity to aspiring professional players.
Spreen later apologized on social media, stating: "I was given the anecdote of my life and, of course, I accepted it. I didn't take anyone's place. If anyone felt that we disrespected them in any way, I want to apologize. That was not our intention."
The incident highlights growing concerns about the intersection of social media influence, sports integrity, and gambling in Argentine football. While some provinces regulate online betting, others maintain strict prohibitions, creating a complex regulatory environment for gambling activities.
